How This DBM Bootcamp Graduate Left Corporate, and 2x Her Online Income as a Digital Business Manager

Meet Angelica!

Residing in Southern California, she is a corporate admin turned Digital Business Manager

How Angelica Left Corporate and Became a Digital Business Manager

After working in the corporate world for a few years, she became bored with the monotonous 9-5 life. Angelica also battles a chronic illness – so working online was appealing because of the flexibility and freedom it offered.

Gif of girl waving goodbye

To kick off her online career, she first started working as a Virtual Assistant. While Angelica was trying all the things ‘VA style’, she couldn’t quite find an area that she was interested in niching down in.

Eventually, she stumbled upon DBM Bootcamp and realized it was right up her alley – and awakening her passion for organizing and streamlining.

Who knew you could make a career out of that?

Once she joined the Bootcamp, she… did nothing!

The first few weeks, she was so busy in her own business that she didn’t even have time for the Bootcamp course work.

Cinderella gif

A real Cinderella story, huh? (for some reason, she gives me princess vibes – anyone else? Is she the next Disney star that represents career women’s independence?)

But after losing a considerable client (unfortunate – but ended up being a blessing in disguise!), she finally had the time to dive right in.

Angelica decided to put her organizational skills in overdrive and basically project planned the entire course – which paid off because she completed it in a little over a month.

Because the course is massive, her biggest tip for new students is to put everything in your calendar. ????

“I also put the course into my Google calendar, and I still live by the calendar every day. I highly recommend doing that and being extremely intentional. Set yourself small goals, and then just go for it. Just push yourself through, little by little, and you will get there.”

Like Deya always says- It’s all about the small wins, eh?

Where Is Angelica’s Digital Business Now?

Angelica currently has several Digital Business Manager clients.

She helps them streamline processes, manage teams, and a sprinkle of project planning.

Another niche area she got involved in during DBM Bootcamp is Dubsado setup.

Dubsado Homepage

Dubsado is a Customer Relationship Management tool that is extremely useful but can be tricky to get set up. That’s where Angelica swoops in she can completely set up and onboard a business onto Dubsado!

“Even while going into the Digital Business Manager world, there is so much room to specialize and grow. So you could even specialize in just team management. Even though ‘Digital Business Manager’ is a more niche role, the sky’s the limit, and there is still so much to do. Anyone that comes in and has an interest in this can find what their zone of genius is. It’s so exciting!”

Angelica’s Biggest Benefits From Becoming a Digital Business Manager

Benefit #1: Pay Raise! $$$

One of the biggest benefits of becoming a DBM is a significant raise in pay. Angelica was able to double her hourly rate from her corporate job in a matter of months- which, if you’re working in corporate, you know that’s unheard of!

Benefit #2: That Online Freedom Thing

Her other favorite part of her Digital Business Manager career is the freedom of working online.

She has total control of her time – waking up when she wants and working when she wants. Plus, she can choose clients that genuinely align with her values and beliefs, which makes working that much more fun.

“I get to do what I love every day – it’s not a chore, it’s something that I really, really enjoy.”

3 Tips for Applying to Digital Business Manager Roles

All of her tips are seriously big league!

1. ⚙️ Create a System for Applying

Creating your system for applying to jobs increases efficiency and optimizes your applications.

Angelica set up an application Airtable where she recorded all of her application questions and answers.

She recommends this because often, you will see the same (or similar) question on multiple applications – and it is way easier to tweak an already well-thought-out answer than write a completely new one every time!

Plus, you will get unpaid experience building a system (that will pay off once you land that new client).

2. 🗂️ Keep a Polished Portfolio – Scratch That, Keep an Entire Google Drive Folder Ready to Go

First off, make sure your portfolio is clean, polished, and branded.

You don’t need to go crazy (and expensive), but making sure everything flows together is extremely important.

Instead of just sending this beautifully polished portfolio to potential clients, Angelica recommends sending an entire Google Drive folder showcasing all of your capstone projects from DBM Bootcamp and previous experience.

In her show-stopping DBM folder, Angelica featured her portfolio, a few projects she worked on as a VA, and then all of her homework and capstone projects from DBM Bootcamp.

3. 📹 Record Your Interviews!

(And of course- ask first)

Does anyone else completely blackout during an interview?

That’s why Angelica suggests recording your interview either through Zoom or just on your voice notes on your phone.

And yes – then you have to go back and actually listen to it.

This way, you can listen back to your answers and make notes on what to say next time.

Then, always always always ask for feedback.

Asking for feedback is scary. No one likes to be told what they’re lousy at, but it’s also the only way to get better.

If you want your applications and interviews to improve, start with knowing what didn’t work- and at least you won’t worry about what did work.

2 Tips for Aspiring Digital Business Managers

#1 Persevere

I’m just gonna let Angelica take it from here.

“My top tip is definitely to persevere. One of my core values is passionate persistence – and honestly, it’s what has gotten me here today.

There have been times when I thought I did so well at the interview, and then I didn’t get it. And there have been times when I’ve cried, and I’m like ‘Why is no one picking me!!

And I’ve been through times when I first start working with a client, and I think to myself, “oh my gosh, can I do this?” and I’ve had a lot of self-doubts, but I push through it. That’s the main thing you will want to do is persevere.

You can do this – you just gotta keep going.”

Anyone else feel uber empowered to restart every project you’ve ever given up on – like right now?

#2 Start With You

You have to be who you want to work for.

Be your dream client.

If you want the client to be organized, have amazing systems, and be well managed, do that for yourself first.

Implementing efficient systems for yourself – whether it’s invoicing, social media, or client management – will only help you focus more on your clients and their needs.

Plus, it takes the edge off of balancing your personal life and your career.

That’s right – no more worrying about forgetting to invoice every month (but let’s be honest – who really forgets about money?).

Does Angelica Recommend the Digital Business Manager Bootcamp?

If you’ve made it this far, you probably already know the answer to that!

“I would 100% recommend the DBM Bootcamp! It has taught me so much – it honestly felt like a college-level course with the detail and the thoughtfulness and professionalism that it brings. If you are interested in this field, then go for it. You will not regret it. You will gain so many skills – and not just any skills, but high-marketable skills. And you really can’t beat that!”

And that’s all, folks! Huge shoutout to Angelica, her princess vibe, and her soul-piercing wisdom.
