How This Digital Business Manager Bootcamp Graduate 2x Her Income to $50/hr and Landed 2 Clients in 6 Weeks

Today, I would like to introduce you to an inspiring DBM Bootcamp graduate – Alison Wright.

Alison Wright is an *official* graduate of DBM Bootcamp, where she landed two DBM clients during the course AND basically doubled her income.

Talk about a double whammy, amirite?

Why Alison Left Her Corporate Job:

For starters, here’s a little backstory about Alison.

Alison’s background is in finance and accounting.

Before working online, she touched bases in a few different corporate careers. She worked for banks, investment firms, and universities. She was even in charge of managing multi-million dollar grants (aka a smart cookie).

So, why did she leave?

She hated the office environment. She hated the commute. She hated corporate politics.

After feeling underappreciated for too long, she began to think there was more out there than this race to the corporate finish line.

That’s when she started looking for her more.

She stumbled upon a Virtual Assistant course, where she learned how to transfer those finance-guru skills to the online world through bookkeeping.

Eventually, she found a few bookkeeping clients but quickly realized that she was doing a CFO’s work- for bookkeeper’s pay, which is not cool or sustainable long term, a considerable pay gap.

So she began the journey of searching for her more.

How Alison Leveled – up from Virtual Assistant to Digital Business Manager:

She wanted to know how to level up her own business – by either learning new skills she could offer or by finding higher-level clients who were willing to pay her what she deserved.

But at the beginning of COVID, Alison lost her biggest client and primary source of income. Shortly after, she saw the sign up for the beta round of DBM Bootcamp, and she knew it was meant to be.

Because she suddenly had extra time on her hands, she dove into the Bootcamp – full send.

“I consumed as much content as possible. I was one of those annoying students that usually would finish the module early before the next module was released – because I was so excited to do the homework and watch the videos! I was learning so much.”

Her diligence and dedication paid off.

Before the Bootcamp ended, she had secured two signed and paying DBM clients.

She contributes this success to her capstone projects, which she used as portfolio pieces – where she was able to completely (and impressively) show off her new management-level skills on every application.

For one client, she is a project manager for an international ad agency.

She says,

“It’s amazing! I’m managing a team of contractors from all over the world. I never thought I would do something like that – and it’s been awesome. We manage Facebook Ads – another thing I never thought I would do. It’s been super interesting.”

She is also working with a CPA and helping with accounting for the other client – but this time on a managerial level instead of a bookkeeping level. She helps build systems and processes for her business to be as efficient as possible.

She says,

“I love SOPs. I love systems. I love helping companies get more efficient at what they do.”

Her most significant benefit of being a DBM?

The freedom! Alison has wanted to work online since she was in college.

She saw early on the freedom an online job offered that a corporate job couldn’t provide. She just never knew how to get her foot in the door.

“I choose when I work. I choose who I work for. And I make a way better living doing this than any of the other jobs I have had.”

Another benefit of working online for Alison is leveling the playing field.

Alison is an amputee, and in her experience, it has negatively impacted her potential for success in a corporate position.

“I have been passed over for positions and promotions because people just assumed that I couldn’t do the work that a “normal” person, without a disability, could do. But in the online world, it levels the playing field because there are no handshakes! And P.S. – I can type just as fast as any of you guys!”

Digital Business Manager?

The Digital Business Manager Bootcamp is an 8-12 week step-by-step training that takes you through all of the technical skills of working as a DBM, such as project, team, and systems management.

Alison’s 4 tips for applying to higher-level roles:

⭐️ Tip #1: Actually, like actually, do the homework and capstone projects.

She made sure to work extremely hard on her capstone projects to have unique portfolio pieces ready to go and send to prospective clients when applying for DBM jobs.

“I’m convinced that those capstone projects got me both of the jobs – so I highly suggest that you take the time and make it awesome.”

⭐️ Tip #2: Apply for jobs that you DON’T think you are qualified for.

She had to set aside her imposter syndrome and just do it.

We often discount ourselves because we think we don’t have enough experience or fit the qualifications perfectly. But in reality, there are tons of positions out there waiting to hire someone like you.

“I applied to so many jobs that I didn’t think I was qualified for. I was terrified to do it – but I did it. You have to put yourself out there because you just don’t know. Somebody might take a chance on you.”

⭐️ Tip #3: Keep applying for jobs even when you get rejected.

Rejection is just part of the process. Don’t get me wrong, it definitely feels personal in the moment, but it is for the best in the long run.

“Don’t let rejection discourage you. You are going to get rejections – everybody does. Keep applying to jobs.”

The best thing you can do is keep trying.

⭐️ Tip #4: Learn to be a figure-outter.

Deya preaches about the importance of being a ‘figure-outter’ in the Bootcamp – and it is totally a life-saver! Your clients will love you for your ‘figure-outter’ abilities, and it carries over into all aspects of your life.

“That’s really what a Digital Business Manager does – they figure things out for their clients. That’s what we get paid to do.”

Does Alison Recommend Digital Business Manager Bootcamp?

Absolutely

Comic of a DBM at her laptop

“I learned more about the online business world in the DBM Bootcamp than I did in 4 years of college getting a business degree.”

As of now, traditional business degrees don’t take into account the online business world as much.

There is a gap in these online tools, systems, and skills that are not being taught.

She also feels that being a DBM is much more stable than working in a corporate career.

“If I lose one client as I did at the beginning of COVID, It’s not a catastrophic event like losing your one corporate job would be. I have other clients, and I can always get more. I make now what it would take me years to make climbing the corporate ladder. I basically doubled my income.”

Alison is still taking on a few more clients – so if Alison sounds like the right fit for your business, give her a shout.

“I landed a client at $50/hr before I even finished the course. This Bootcamp is worth every penny and a thousand times more.”

“Before the DBM Bootcamp, I was a Virtual Assistant struggling to get those higher-paying jobs and was capping out at about $25/hr. I really felt like I was worth more.

And actually, before I even finished the DBM Bootcamp, I had signed 2 brand new clients – one client at 2x the rate that I was making before!

My favorite aspect of the DBM Bootcamp was the Team Management module; the capstone project that I created for that module actually landed me one of my DBM clients.

I also LOVED creating SOPs that are actually usable. Most SOPs for companies that I’ve seen aren’t that great, but Deya’s SOP templates are the bomb.

Would I recommend this Bootcamp to others? Heck yes, I would. It is worth every penny and a thousand times more.

If you want to learn from the best, sign up for the Bootcamp and get ready to level up in ways you never thought possible.”
