How This Virtual Assistant Went From $15/HR to $8k+ Consistent Months as a Digital Business Manager Without Working More Hours

Meet Taryn, who went from a $15/hr Virtual Assistant to an $8K/month Digital Business Manager… And let’s see how she did it.

Taryn’s background is in Physical Therapy.

💻 How did Taryn Start Freelancing Online

When she got pregnant with her first son, Taryn quickly realized that her role in physical therapy would not work for her due to the strange hours.

Taryn took a year off after having her son, and about 1/3rd into the year, she realized she did NOT want to go back to her previous job!

So, she decided to check out the opportunities of the online world, which led her to become a Virtual Assistant.

She started as a customer service Virtual Assistant at a whopping $15/hr. 😉

After two years of working as a VA, she started feeling tired of all the ‘doing’ work

She had a few clients, but she felt too busy and overwhelmed. Her projects were all over the place and she often ended up working nights and weekends to stay on top of her work.

She felt really called to work on other people’s businesses, so Taryn started exploring her options to become an Online Business Manager.

That’s when she stumbled upon Digital Business Manager Bootcamp!

One of the main reasons she chose DBM Bootcamp was the affordable price point.

“Some of the other courses are like $4,000… and that’s making it out of reach for me as a Virtual Assistant.”

And after watching the FREE MASTERCLASS, she went to her main client and pitched him her idea of becoming a Digital Business Manager in his business.

Plot twist; he said… NO.

“Sorry, but no. I want to keep you on the team and you can work as many hours as you want, but the business just isn’t ready for that yet.”

She set the idea aside for a little bit, but she had a strong gut feeling that she really needed this course in her life.

So, she took the leap anyway and dug right in.

“This course has everything you could possibly need. What I love is that you can build on the skills you already have. It didn’t feel so beginner… it jumps in right where your skill level is and gives you the confidence to present yourself as a DBM.”

👉🏼  The biggest thing that changed for Taryn was her mindset.

Taryn realized that she was ready to step into the role of digital business manager.

She already had the skills – she just needed the confidence to start applying for those higher-level positions.

And in week 5 of the course, she landed her biggest client yet!

👩🏻‍💻 Where is Taryn now?

She’s now in a project management position for a new company and is being transitioned to COO of one of her VA clients.

“Some of these things I’ve done in the ‘business’ world but not in the online business world. So learning how to transition those skills through to the online world has been super helpful.”

She is still working with a few main clients, but she will start cutting back on clients because she doesn’t need to work with so many clients at once as a Digital Business Manager.

Taryn is called all sorts of things now: COO, Integrator, Online Business Manager, but all of those roles lead back to a few main skills Taryn learned as a VA and in DBM Bootcamp.

Some of the tasks Taryn now handles:

  • ☎️ Check-in calls
  • 🤝 Accountability calls
  • 🚀 Launch Project Management
  • 👩🏻‍💻 Hiring and Onboarding
  • 👥 Team Management
  • 🗂 Client Management

“Another thing I love is that at the end of the day, I’m actually done. As a VA, I felt like there was always more I could be doing, so then I was working all night. But with project management, there’s only so much you can do in one day, so there’s actually an end. That’s what I was striving for.”

📎 Tayrn’s 3 Tips for Scaling from a $15/hr VA to $8K+ Months as a Digital Business Manager

Taryn started as a customer service Virtual Assistant at $15/hr and now is consistently hitting $8K months (and is scheduled to hit $10K this year!)… And she’s not even working full time.

So, how did she do it?

💡 Tip 1: Do Everything You Possibly Can for Clients When You First Start

Her first VA client was a great starter client because he let her dabble in a lot of things.

She started in customer service but saw other areas she could assist in the business… so she stepped up and ran with it!

“If you get the opportunity with your clients to do more things, DO IT. You’ll gain insight on what you do like to do, what you do not like to do, and you learn how to oversee someone else doing that project.”

You can always niche down later, but it’s good in the beginning to get a well-rounded background to stand on.

💡 Tip 2: Look Out for Shiny Object Syndrome

Shiny object syndrome is REAL, even as a service provider.

You see it everywhere online, “How I scaled my business to 6-figures in 3 months,” and “Do this, that, and the other to make passive income.”

But you don’t see what they tried, and tried, and tried… and ultimately failed at to realize that was the route for them?

Taryn dabbled in a few different ways of scaling before choosing to become a DBM. She almost even made an online course!

But at the end of the day, she realized that she prefers working on other’s businesses than her own.

“You are a service provider, and your business will grow and grow as long as you continue to show up for your clients and yourself, and you create great relationships.”

Avoid anything that looks a little too good to be true, and stay focused on what YOU feel is the right path.

💡 Tip 3: Prioritize Your Mindset

The online world is amazing, but working online is an entirely different environment than working in an office.

You have to keep yourself accountable, learn new things on your own, and battle imposter syndrome because you’re constantly seeing what everyone else is doing.

And focusing on your mindset is what will continue to push you forward.

Sometimes we are our own block!

Set goals for yourself, and get creative to reach those goals – but also think, “what can you do for yourself?” to actually reach those goals.

Step 1 is making that goal, but then step 2 is putting in the work every day.

For Tayrn, that looks like this:

  • Daily meditation
  • Walks outside
  • Reading affirmations
  • Reading mindset books
Focus on your self-love and self-care because it bleeds into every part of your life. It will help you show up as your best self in business.

👍 Does Taryn Recommend Digital Business Manager Bootcamp?

100%!

I’ve been through a ton of courses, and this is hands down the most thorough course I’ve ever taken. It’s everything that you could need (and for a fraction of the price).

I’m walking away so competent, and I haven’t even gone through every module yet- it’s that good. You can pick out the pieces you need and go back and reference things later

If you’re on the fence, I 1000% recommend it – you will not regret your investment!”

Thank you, Taryn, for such fantastic insight into scaling your business and your income!
